Rigell Signs Tea Party Pledge

-Virginia Beach, VA- The Hampton Roads Tea Party and 912 First Landing Patriots are pleased to announce that Candidate Scott Rigell (R- VA-2) , has agreed to promote 7 key points of the tea party movement, including auditing the Federal Reserve, fighting illegal immigration amnesty, and an across the board pledge to not raise taxes or fees. The "Pledge to the People of the Second District" was a coalition effort. This pledge is the result of several months of meetings and conference calls.

We feel that this particular mid-term election has profound consequences, and as you consider your vote carefully review the positions of all the candidates. Glenn Nye, has already issued a statement in effect saying that this pledge is meaningless. Well, if that's the case, why issue a statement?

In this war against malignant progressivism, we feel that this pledge advances the battlefront. And we believe that those of us who have had serious reservations about Mr. Rigell's political positioning, can now take this new information into consideration, in context of the current political realities.

“ We’re pleased that Scott Rigell is willing to work with the Tea Party,” says Karen Miner Hurd, HRTP Founder and Chair. “He reached out to us immediately following the June primary, and this pledge is the result of several meetings and conference calls. We appreciate Scott Rigell’s willingness to go on record as supporting some foundational issues , such as an audit of the Federal Reserve, that we feel will be significant in returning the United States to Constitutional Government. It gives us a starting point for the accountability we are seeking in elected officials”.

Kristen Cooper, Chairman of 912 First Landing Patriots, agrees. “ The duty of the patriot citizen is to vet candidates and learn what they are willing to stand for, and against. We cannot continue to allow fliers in mailboxes and 60 second radio and TV ads to be our main source for decision making at the polls. Mr. Rigell's pledge indicates that if elected, he will follow his responsibility to uphold the Constitution on key issues that the patriot movement feels are critical to protecting individual liberty, restoring limited government, and rooting out corruption within our current system. I appreciate the time Mr. Rigell gave us on this important matter”.

A Pledge from Scott Rigell to the People of the Second Congressional District

In addition to my sacred oath as a representative to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, if elected to Congress I pledge:

• To promote fiscal discipline and accountability by supporting a full audit of the Federal Reserve System that would be made available to the Congress and the American People. I will support this through any House rule or procedure, any Committee vote, and any House floor roll call vote.

• To fix Washington’s spending problem and set America on the right fiscal track by supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment or similar Constitutional amendment (e.g. Taxpayers Bill of Rights which is indexed to population growth) that serves as an objective standard to control government spending.

• To promote the economic wellbeing of American families and businesses by voting against any tax or fee increase. I will not support any increase in Congressional salaries, perks, retirement, or health benefits until the budget is balanced.

• To safeguard America’s fundamental principles and liberties through vigilance in protecting the rights of free speech. I will vote against any legislation that abridges free speech under the guise of “internet neutrality” or “campaign finance reform”, supports “kill switch”, creates internet taxes, or imposes a “fairness” doctrine.

• To uphold the constitution and protect America’s economic freedom by supporting legislation (such as the Discharge Petition now in Congress) to repeal and defund the Affordable Health and Patient Recovery Act ,and actively promotes free market solutions to address the nation’s healthcare concerns. I will do this in any House procedure, Committee vote, or House floor roll call vote. I commit to overriding any Presidential veto of the same.

• To bring accountability and reform to Washington by supporting any type of legislation that would increase transparency and accountability in any act of Congress, such as the Enumerated Powers Act.

• To fight against any measure that subverts U.S. sovereignty, whether through trade, currency, environmental causes, the United Nations, immigration amnesty, or under the guise of human rights.

Yesterday, on July 4,2010, our nation celebrated its 234th birthday. As I re-read the Declaration of Independence I was once again struck by the offenses that caused the Founders to separate from British rule. If our Founders were alive today, they would be wondering what took us so long to wake up! Our Constitution is assaulted on a daily basis. All levels of government: city, state and federal have unelected officials regulated our lives and taxing the fruit of our labors for the growth of government. We have Czars on the national level, and unelected authorities on the state and local levels. What goes on in Congress is only a reflection of what we have allowed in our own backyards.

Hampton Roads Tea Party Announces City Chapters

For too long, Americans have focused too much attention on the craziness in Washington D.C.,and virtually ignored the place where they have the greatest impact: their own back yard. Do you know the expression, “Get your own house in order first”? That is exactly the purpose of the Hampton Roads Tea Party City Chapters. We saw a need for people to get more connected to each other, and to put the fear of the voter in their elected officials. As we grew in numbers we realized the importance of staying connected. As our government is threatening our free speech with the DISCLOSE Act, Net Neutrality, and the internet “kill switch” it becameimperative that our membership have more than one way to interact with each other and to impact our community.

As the 912 First Landing Patriots got organized we saw the City Chapters as a natural fit to develop precinct groups that would serve as the “ground zero” for nurturing the new breed of American voter.

The purpose of the HRTP City Chapters is :

1) to develop community within HRTP –

2) to be the HRTP eyes and ears in each city

3) to develop outreach programs with civic leagues, other civic organizations, and businesses

4) to develop liaisons with each city council

5) to help develop the HRTP Precinct Project with the 912 First Landing Patriots

6) to assist in vetting local city council, school board and other elected officials

7) to participate in local get out the vote (GOTV) efforts

8) promote the mission of Hampton Roads Tea Party to increase citizen participate in government

1) register your name on the HRTP Community network. Please use your real name, and remember to upload your picture or other avatar.

HR5175 DISCLOSE Act vs. The People

The passage in the House of HR5175 should be a wake-up call to all patriots, especially in Hampton Roads. This act is a direct assault on the First Amendment rights of many citizens, with exemptions carved out for unions and large PACs like the NRA. Some in the blogosphere are calling this one of Obama's Intolerable Acts. The Hampton Roads Tea Party couldn't agree more. Pieces of legislation such as this, limit the free expression by Americans that our Founders knew was critical to a republic. If the people are to be deprived of their free speech, what avenues do they have left? How is their liberty to be defended? Every candidate for office should publicly denounce this act. Every patriot should ask themself where they draw the line.

Call TODAY- DISCLOSE ACT Vote will Kill Free Speech

The Hampton Roads Tea Party has been following the DISCLOSE Act which will make it nearly impossible for grassroots groups - like HRTP- to engage in political speech, and open up donors to harassment by requiring (disclose) donors to specific media and political campaigns. This is much broader than what the current law requires.

Ironically- the NRA got an exemption, and the larger national organizations - like Right to Work are lining up for their exemptions. The NRA is no longer opposing the bill. Right to Work says that they are still opposing the bill. (H.R. 5175)

Tea Party Calls on Sponsor's of MSNBC's Hardball to Boycott

The Hampton Roads Tea Party is in full support of the call for a boycott. If Glenn Beck can lose sponsors because he promotes American values and offers carefully researched programming revealing the extremists within the Obama administration, then certainly, Chris Matthews propaganda piece "The Rise of the New Right" deserves no less. Matthews program was sham "reporting". The National Enquirer does a better job of reporting than Matthews. - Karen Miner Hurd, Founder/Chair Hampton Roads Tea Party.

Did the Hampton Roads Tea Party Change it's mind about Ben Loyola?

Today- a poll was posted on Twitter that said:

Rigell 28% (down from 47% his own poll numbers of 5/18)
Misuzawa at 25%
Loyola at 24%

The poll came from average of 3 phone polls - 2 by Military Candidate PACs, 1 by GOP Commitee.

This past weekend, the Hampton Roads Tea Party got major exposure a front page story on the tea party movement, including a mention of the HRTP Board of Director's endorsement of Ben Loyola. With Loyola now in striking distance of getting the primary victory tomorrow the fur is flying!

Tonight June 7 - thousands of Second District voters got a robo call from Deborah Johns - Former VP of the Tea Party Express (she is no longer with them), telling people that the tea party is endorsing Bert Misuzawa.

WRONG!!! The Hampton Roads Tea Party Board of Directors is 100% behind Ben Loyola. We feel that those calls are misleading and designed to confuse the voter.

On June 8 - Tuesday remember to vote. Polls open at 6:00 AM.

It's interesting. The HRTP Board of Directors endorsed a Republican in the Republican primary, and some are acting like it's a 3rd party thing. The Tea Party, especially the Hampton Roads Tea Party has been accused of “splitting the vote”. Yet the GOP has 6 candidates in the race going for a limited number of votes. The GOP is doing the splitting here in VA-2, as they are in VA-5 and in 30 other districts in the US. The Republican Party is still running status quo moderates who are trying to look conservative in a tea-party political era. They were NOT listening to Americans who said "enough"!

This problem is compounded by the candidates themselves. If the candidates running anti-establishment campaigns were truly serious about defeating
